What is the BBF?

The BBF was formed in mid 1999 after discussions between various
bisexual
activists throughout the UK which showed that there was a need for a
national bisexual organisation.

How is it structured?

The BBF is putting in place a regional structure eventually covering the
entire country.  Regional councils will be formed of individuals
and local
bisexual groups who join or are affiliated to the BBF.  The BBF is
in the
process of being registered as a company limited by guarantee and is
making
an application for charity status.

There is an interim Board of Trustees who will serve for a two year
period
and get the organisation set up and running after which point elections
will
be held at our AGM.

What will the BBF do?

This will be defined by what a) the membership wish the BBF to do and b)
what we are allowed to do under charity law.

It is hoped that the BBF will help to pull the UK bisexual community
together and help the community to be cohesive and empowered whilst
still respecting the
independence and individuality of local groups.

Some of the ways we could achieve this are:

Providing practical and financial help to local bisexual groups in
formation.

Advising on setting up local bisexual festivals on the lines of the
London
BiFest

Advice on promotion of local bi groups and resources

Acting as a communications network between different groups

Dealing with media queries and helping to dispel the poor image that
bisexuals seem to have
in some parts of the media.

Providing outreach materials at reasonable cost

Supporting individual bisexuals in distress and referring them on to the
appropriate agencies where necessary

Why should I join?

By joining the BBF you are playing your part in helping to advance the
cause
of bisexuality in Britain.

The bigger the organisation then the more chance of getting a bi voice
heard
by funders, service providers and
decision makers.

So what do I get for my membership fee then?

You will get:

Four issues of our newsletter per year

The chance to vote in BBF elections

Outreach materials

The chance to network effectively with other bisexual groups,
organisations
and individuals

Access to training

Access to funding for affiliated groups (subject to any restrictions
placed
on funding by awarding bodies)

Support for your local group

A chance to pool knowledge and resources
